Applied for a job and managing anxiety about my ranking in the hiring process

I recently applied for a position and I'm feeling anxious about whether I might be the second or third choice. I know it shouldn't matter too much, but I can't help but wonder how that might affect my chances of getting an offer. I’ve been advised to keep applying elsewhere and not to fixate on my ranking in their priorities. It's the end of summer, and I’ve heard that many people take PTO during this time, which can slow down the hiring process. I can relate to that because when I return from a break, I often find my inbox flooded with emails that I need to sort through before I can even start on my regular tasks. I’m trying to stay relaxed and focus on other opportunities, but it’s tough not to feel a bit desperate. I know from others’ experiences that hiring processes can take a long time, and it’s more important to be the chosen candidate, regardless of my ranking. I just hope to hear back soon!
