Reflecting on My Growth in Social Media and Seeking New Opportunities

I've been reflecting on my job in social media at a small media organization, and I've come to the realization that I've outgrown my role. When I first joined, I was mainly focused on creating graphics, but my responsibilities have expanded significantly over time. I've taken on tasks like developing editorial ideas, shaping content strategy, and identifying compelling stories to tell. I've even started studying audience behavior on my own because I genuinely want to understand how to engage our community better. Despite my growth, my role hasn't evolved to reflect my contributions. I'm still seen as 'just the graphics person' and compensated accordingly, which has been frustrating. The remote job market has been tough, and while I've applied for better opportunities, interviews have been my weak point. I struggle to articulate my value, even though I know I can deliver results. What weighs on me the most is the feeling that my contributions are becoming invisible. Ideas I introduce often get rebranded as 'our ideas,' and I don’t get the internal acknowledgment I crave. I don’t need public recognition, but I want my teammates to know the value I bring. Collaboration is important to me, and I take pride in seeing my colleagues succeed. I want to work in an environment where my contributions are recognized and where I can help shape the direction of our work, not just execute tasks. Ultimately, I’ve realized that I need to find a role that values not only what I can create but also how I think. Outgrowing a job doesn’t mean disliking the work; it’s about wanting to contribute in ways that my current role no longer recognizes.
