Supporting my wife through her job loss anniversary and job search struggles

Today marks one year since my wife was laid off, and I’ve been reflecting on how to best support her during this tough time. She lost her job just a day before her maternity leave was set to begin, which was incredibly difficult for both of us. As she prepares for an interview, I’ve chosen to stay quiet about the anniversary to avoid adding any emotional weight. I’m unsure if this is the right approach, but I want to be there for her without forcing her to relive that painful moment. The job market has been brutal, and despite her efforts, she hasn’t found a new position yet. Initially, I was worried about my own job security and the impact on our family, but that fear has lessened over time. I’ve even thought about how I would handle a layoff myself, wanting to show her that we’re in this together. I know it sounds counterproductive since I’m actively job hunting for myself, but I want her to feel supported and understand that the struggles we face are not solely hers. I’ve been trying to balance my work responsibilities with family time, but I feel like I could do more to show my appreciation for her. We’re planning a trip for her and our baby’s birthdays, but I want to do something special to lift her spirits and help her feel valued, especially with the emotional strain we’re both under. I recognize that losing a job isn’t the end of the world, but rather a challenging phase we need to navigate together. I’m reaching out for suggestions on how to make her feel better and more appreciated during this time. P.S. If my wife happens to read this, I want her to know that I love her deeply and I’m here for her through it all.
