I’m a 31-year-old male who has faced the harsh reality of layoffs twice in my career. The first time was in 2022, just as I was about to turn 28. I was juggling a part-time MBA program while working full-time and had been delivering strong results for my team. Despite this, I was let go in a single afternoon, which felt incredibly abrupt and disheartening. Fast forward to 2025, I had just completed my MBA in November 2024 and started a new role in January 2025. Unfortunately, that position was cut shortly after due to a toxic work environment and management reassurances that the layoffs were over. While it felt like a blessing in disguise to escape that negativity, my imposter syndrome skyrocketed as a recent graduate. Now in 2026, I feel like I’m in a precarious situation. Although my current work environment seems stable, with a supportive manager and teammates, the company has undergone two rounds of layoffs and reorganizations in just six months. This constant uncertainty has me on edge, making me second-guess everything. I used to share my marketing campaigns and successes on LinkedIn to build my network and promote my company, but now I hesitate to post anything. The fear of being suddenly unemployed looms large, and I find myself waiting for the other shoe to drop. I just want to feel at ease at work for most of the week, but the tension is always there. Will this feeling ever go away?
