Navigating Career Uncertainty After a Life-Changing Climbing Accident

I’m 26 years old and my life took a drastic turn 9 weeks ago when I fell 35 feet while climbing. The injuries I sustained were severe—I broke numerous bones, was in a coma, had collapsed lungs, and a bleed on my brain, among other things. Honestly, I feel incredibly lucky to even be able to type this right now. For the last couple of years, I worked as a labourer for a general builder, slowly learning the trade and contributing to the team. However, after my fall, I’m uncertain if my body will ever recover enough to return to that line of work, and even if it does, I won’t be able to rejoin the trades for months while I heal. This leaves me in a tough spot financially. I’ve always struggled to find my career path, partly due to a troubled youth that extended into my twenties. Just as I was starting to gain more responsibilities and skills in my role, this accident has set me back again. I don’t have any formal qualifications or experience outside of low-level jobs, and I was beginning to see a future in construction, which now feels out of reach. I’m feeling lost and scared about what comes next. I can’t afford to work for apprenticeship wages, but I also don’t want to end up in a warehouse job for the rest of my life. I do run a side business that brings in about £25k a year, but it’s not scalable enough to rely on completely, and it’s not what I want to pursue as a career. I’m reaching out for advice or suggestions on how to navigate this situation. I really don’t know what to do next, and I’m feeling quite low about it all.
