Navigating the aftermath of my layoff and health challenges after 8 years

I just experienced a layoff after nearly 8 years at my company. It all started over a year ago when I was put on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) while working from home. Due to a significant outage, I was required to work in the office, and when I asked about returning home, I received vague responses. My health has been deteriorating, causing me to take FMLA days due to vision loss. Fast forward to August 2026, I was nearing the end of my FMLA days and decided to escalate my situation to HR after feeling ignored. They were surprised I hadn’t been allowed to work from home after the outage. I submitted ADA paperwork to accommodate my condition, but it took weeks for my employer to review it. I finally got approval to work from home after an in-person training, but shortly after, I suffered another health setback and went on short-term disability. While I was bedridden, I missed a call from HR and later received a voicemail stating I had been medically terminated for exceeding my leave options. I was locked out of all my accounts and haven’t had direct communication with HR since. Now, I'm left figuring out health insurance and bills, unsure if I qualify for unemployment due to the nature of my termination. This has been a really tough situation for me.
