I’m currently in a tough spot with my career. I’ve been with my company for four years, and I feel incredibly unvalued. It’s a fast-paced environment with constant context switching, and I’m just exhausted. My skip-level manager plays favorites, which has made my situation even more frustrating. However, I do have some support from my current manager and cross-functional leadership, who recognize my contributions. I’ve been working on a portfolio that I helped develop from scratch, and I’m excited about launching it in about 1.5 years. If I stay for one more year, my pension will vest, which is a significant factor for me. Recently, I received a job offer for a lateral move with a 25% salary increase. The new company is reputable but has been facing challenges for the past year and a half. I would be responsible for a product that is underperforming, and the pressure would be high. The new role would also mean starting over in building trust with new colleagues, which makes me anxious, especially since I’d be launching a product that’s struggling. I presented my situation to my current employer, hoping for some growth opportunities or a salary increase, but they confirmed that nothing could be done. This really hit me hard and made me realize how unappreciated I feel. Now, I’m torn between two options: 1) Stay at my current job, focus on setting boundaries, and continue searching for more exciting opportunities while letting my pension vest, or 2) Take the new job for a fresh start and higher pay, but deal with the stress and pressure of a challenging launch. I’m feeling burned out and need to prioritize my well-being, but I also don’t want to make a decision I’ll regret later.
