I am a 23-year-old graduate in Information Science Engineering from India, and I have been trying to break into the software engineering field for the past 1.5 years without success. Despite applying to hundreds of companies and going through interviews with major firms like Microsoft and SAP Labs, I have faced numerous rejections and ghosting. I even had a short-term data-related contract role but it wasn't enough to secure a full-time position in IT. Recently, I received an offer for an Amazon Transportation Specialist role that involves supporting North America and Canada. This role is primarily operations-focused with evening shifts, and I’m concerned about how this might affect my long-term goal of becoming a software engineer. The interviewers have questioned my shift from IT to a non-IT role, which has left me feeling uncertain. My main worries are whether taking this position will distance me from software engineering and if recruiters will view me as an operations candidate instead of an IT candidate after a couple of years. I also wonder about the chances of transferring to a technical role within Amazon. I’m torn between accepting this opportunity for the sake of gaining industry experience and continuing my search for an IT role. I’ve been unemployed for a while now, and I’m not sure how much longer I can wait. I would really appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation or has insights into working at Amazon.
