Navigating job uncertainty: rumors of layoffs during my training period

I recently started a new job about a month ago, and I was really excited about it. I spent the last two weeks training for my role, getting to know the internal systems, shadowing colleagues, and meeting different teams. Everyone seemed optimistic about the future of our department, and I felt fortunate to have landed a position in such a tough job market. However, during lunch yesterday, a senior employee mentioned that leadership has been considering eliminating our entire function and outsourcing most of the work. At first, I thought it was just a joke, but later another coworker confirmed that they've been hearing similar rumors for months. It seems like there have already been discussions about restructuring, but no one has officially addressed it with us. What's particularly confusing is that I'm still in training, along with another new hire, and our managers haven't said anything about these potential changes. It's tough to stay motivated when there's a chance my role could vanish before I even finish my training. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this—did it turn out to be just rumors, or did it lead to actual layoffs?
