I'm currently in a tough situation as I'm struggling to find a job. I dropped out of high school around the 10th or 11th grade and I'm now 34 years old. For the past decade, I've been living with my mom, who has been my main support. Unfortunately, she has recently been diagnosed with dementia, and I've become her Power of Attorney. We're relying on our savings, but they're running low, especially with her assisted living care costing around $4,000 a month. I have a few months left before we run out of money, and I know I need to find a job soon to avoid becoming homeless. I haven't worked in over 10 years, so I feel like I'm starting from scratch. I've mainly been using Indeed to search for jobs because I find their user interface more manageable than others. I've also tried going in person with printed resumes, but every place I've visited has told me to apply online, which hasn't been successful for me. It's frustrating because some job listings seem absurd, like server positions requiring a high school diploma just to take orders and deliver food. I'm at my wits' end; nothing seems to be working, whether I apply online or go in person. I feel lost and can't really ask my mom for advice anymore since she's not able to help. I'm open to any suggestions or advice anyone might have. I've heard that warehouse work or stocking shelves overnight could be options since they often don't require a diploma, and temp agencies might help me get my foot in the door without dealing with the online application hassle.
