Navigating ADHD Challenges in the Workplace: Improving Soft Skills and Communication

I’ve been struggling with my soft skills at work, particularly due to my inattentive ADHD. I've noticed that attention to detail has been a recurring issue across my last few jobs, and despite trying various strategies like checklists and sticky notes, nothing seems to help. Recently, I started medication, which I believe is making a difference, but I find myself in a precarious situation at my current job. I’m currently on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) partly because of these challenges, and I’m determined to not let this follow me into my next role. Another area I need to improve is my sense of ownership over tasks. My psychiatrist suggested that I work with a therapist to help manage this. I often complete tasks but forget to communicate their status clearly to my team. For instance, I recently finished a project where I handled the main tasks and edge cases, but I neglected to ensure that my team was aware of where the edge cases were documented, leading to confusion later on. To address this, I’ve been trying to keep my Product Owner updated more frequently, moving tasks on our kanban board more consistently, and following up with team members promptly. However, I still feel like some things that seem obvious to others just aren’t clear to me. I’ve reached out to a couple of therapists who specialize in career advice and ADHD, but I’m still looking for more resources. I’m genuinely worried that these issues will prevent me from maintaining a stable job for the long term.
