I was recently let go from my position as a receptionist at a small company due to not fitting in with the team and making repeated minor mistakes. It was a tough experience, as I was the youngest in the office and struggled to connect with my coworkers, who were mostly millennials. They had interests in sports and pop culture, while I leaned more towards nerdy topics like anime and video games. Despite my efforts to engage in conversations and participate in office dynamics, I felt out of place and eventually started to isolate myself during lunch breaks. In terms of my work performance, I believe I handled the technical tasks well, but I faced challenges with the social aspects of the job. I was constantly compared to my predecessor, who was also young and Asian, which added to my stress. My exit interview highlighted my punctuality and reliability, but I was also informed about the mistakes I made, particularly with payment processing. I often made typos when transferring data between different reports, which, although minor, were significant enough to raise concerns. I've been taking some time to reflect on this experience and am currently studying to earn additional certifications to enhance my resume. I'm planning to start my job search again on Monday, but I can't shake the feeling that I contributed to my dismissal. My friends have reassured me that the situation was more about management issues, but I'm still processing everything.
