I’m currently in a tough spot with my job situation. I was hired just two months ago at a local brunch spot as a part-time server, primarily working weekends, but I could pick up extra shifts when available. Initially, things were going well, and I was able to secure 5-6 shifts a week. However, every server is required to work a support shift weekly, which has become a challenge. Recently, our GM held a meeting where she mentioned that many staff members were leaving for other opportunities or returning to school, and she wouldn't be hiring anyone soon. Just a couple of weeks later, I noticed 4-5 new servers scheduled for training, which has cut into my hours significantly. I’ve only been scheduled for one host shift each week lately, and when I try to pick up extra shifts, my colleagues are also struggling to get hours. With 12 years in the food industry, I’ve been trying to transition to a more stable job but have faced countless rejections. I’ve applied for bank teller positions, office jobs, and even entry-level manufacturing roles. Earlier this year, I completed a manufacturing training course that gave me several certifications, but only one person from my class found work in that field. Next month, I’m starting a Biomanufacturing course at college, hoping it will lead to better job prospects. I’m really burnt out on the restaurant industry and need something more consistent. My earnings fluctuate wildly; some days I make $150-$200, while others I barely scrape by with $50. It’s taking a toll on my mental health, and I feel like I’m stuck in a cycle of failure. I’ve been applying everywhere—Indeed, LinkedIn, and even directly through company websites. I’ve reached out to companies via email, but they just redirect me to job boards. I’m even considering sales rep positions and assembly jobs, but the rejections keep piling up. I’m desperate to escape serving and find something stable.
