Applied for a role in my industry but received a rejection letter after interview

I recently received a rejection letter after a panel interview for a role I applied for at a company in my industry. I felt that the interview went relatively well, but I sensed that the interviewers were leaning towards candidates with more experience. Given that I am still new to this field, I wasn't too surprised when I received their polite rejection letter. They explicitly stated that I was 'not a good fit' for the position, mentioning a specific area of experience that I lack. However, they also mentioned that they would keep me in mind for any other roles that might suit me better. This has left me wondering if their message essentially means they liked me but just need someone with more experience. I wasn't expecting to make it to the interview stage, especially since I had heard through my network that this company typically prefers more seasoned professionals. Still, it stings a bit to receive such a blunt rejection.
