I just finished applying for a job and I am really frustrated. I spent hours tailoring my CV, writing a cover letter, and filling out the application, only to find out that they require a LinkedIn profile as a mandatory part of the process. I don’t have a LinkedIn account, and I really don’t want to create one. I've always valued my privacy and have avoided using my full name on social media for 27 years, except for a Facebook account that I deleted long ago. It feels unfair that I have to compromise my privacy just to apply for a job. I understand that having a LinkedIn is common nowadays, but I don’t think I should be forced into it. This whole situation has just left me feeling annoyed and irritated.
