I was laid off in April 2026 during a restructuring at my previous company, despite them having a strong financial quarter. It was a tough time; I had just moved into a new apartment and suddenly found myself without a job. Thankfully, I secured a new position within a month. However, in late September 2026, the company conducted another round of layoffs, again targeting employees even after reporting record profits. It’s disheartening to see how little empathy there is in the corporate world. I know someone who had just welcomed a newborn and was laid off the following week, and another friend had recently relocated to Bengaluru with his wife only to face the same fate. These uncertain times have taught me the importance of financial preparedness. My advice to young couples is to save at least six months’ worth of expenses and strive to remain debt-free.
