Applied for a hospital job after a year away from the medical field

I recently applied for a hospital job and included my last three relevant positions on my resume. However, I haven't worked in the medical field for the past year due to relocating and other personal matters. During this time, I've been working as a painter. I had a recent interview for the hospital position, but I haven't heard back yet. One question during the interview really stuck with me: they asked if I had been unemployed for the past year. This made me wonder if recruiters view my situation negatively because of the gap in my medical experience. I included my last medical job from a year ago on my resume, but I'm starting to think that not showing my recent painting job might make it look like I've been unemployed. I know that having a gap in employment isn't ideal in today's job market, but I want to present my work history accurately while still highlighting my skills.
