Navigating resume decisions after a short stint at Company B before returning to Company A

I recently faced a dilemma regarding my resume after a short stint at Company B. I had worked at Company A for almost five years, starting as an Engineer and eventually becoming an Engineering Manager. I left to join Company B as a Senior Engineer, but the workplace culture was extremely strict and not a good fit for me. After just 2-3 months, I made the decision to leave and joined Company C, where I've been for over a year now and feel much more aligned with my career goals. Now, I'm considering an opportunity to return to Company A on a different project. The hiring manager doesn’t know me personally, but I have a strong recommendation from a former colleague who currently works with them. My concern is how to address my brief time at Company B during interviews. I initially thought about omitting Company B from my resume entirely, but I learned that a former director from Company B, who knows me well, has returned to Company A and is involved in the same project area. I’m uncertain whether it’s better to keep Company B on my resume or leave it off entirely. I’ve received advice suggesting that since my time at Company B was short and sandwiched between significant roles at A and C, it wouldn’t be scandalous to include it. Some recommend listing it with a brief description to maintain a clean timeline. I’m still weighing my options and trying to figure out the best approach for my resume and interviews.
