Seeking advice on final paycheck issues after resignation from California job

I recently resigned from my job in California, giving my two weeks' notice on August 6th, with my last day being August 20th. However, my final scheduled shift was on August 15th, and I returned all my company property, including my badge and uniform. When I requested my final paycheck, the HR team informed me they couldn't locate it. I later received a message stating that since my official resignation date is the 20th, my paycheck would not be processed until then. I'm not very familiar with labor laws regarding final paychecks, so I'm seeking advice on whether their reasoning is correct. It seems like I should be entitled to my final wages since I provided more than 72 hours' notice.
