I'm currently in a tough spot at work as an engineer. I was diagnosed with adjustment disorder due to overwhelming work stress, which led to significant health issues in late 2025. Although I'm feeling much better now, I still struggle with sleep and managing stress. The thought of going back to my old job is terrifying because I was pressured to approve unsafe work practices in a high-volume, safety-sensitive environment. I've been offered another job, but I'm uncertain if I can handle the pressure, especially since it would involve starting on probation without any gradual return or accommodations. My doctors are preparing a letter for HR at my current job, advocating against placing me back in the same department, but I'm not sure if they'll heed this advice. I'm really torn between staying in a familiar but risky environment or taking a chance on the new opportunity while I'm not at my best. Any advice on how to navigate this would be greatly appreciated.
