I recently gave my two weeks' notice at my job as a marketing coordinator, with my last day set for Friday. However, I've just learned that my boss will be out for a leadership retreat on Thursday and Friday, which leaves me feeling uncertain about whether I should stick around for those last two days. I've only been in this role for six months, and honestly, I’ve been quite bored due to a lack of tasks and proper training. My boss has been too busy to provide the support I needed, and the company is very inflexible regarding work-from-home options and schedule adjustments. When I submitted my resignation, my boss was disappointed but gracious, acknowledging her lack of time for me. She mentioned I would be welcomed back in the future if circumstances changed, but I don't foresee that happening. I have several professional references from other roles that I can rely on, so I'm not too concerned about this position. However, I do want to leave on good terms to maintain my eligibility for rehire, just in case. As I approach my final days, I feel like I've wrapped up all my projects and handed off my responsibilities. I don't see the point in coming in when my boss won’t be there to assign me any tasks. I have to clock in and out, so I wouldn’t be paid for those two days, but honestly, I’m more interested in having some time to relax before starting my next job. I’m considering whether to inform my boss that I want to end my notice period early, ask if I should use my remaining PTO for those days, or just not show up and assume it won't matter. Given my boss's old-school approach to business, I'm worried that leaving early might create a negative impression, even though I doubt I will encounter her again in my career. It feels like a tough decision, especially since I want to ensure I leave on a positive note.
