Navigating a Tough Work Environment: Should I Stay or Start Job Hunting?

I've been working at a big tech company since March 2026, and honestly, it's been a struggle. The co-founder is a total narcissist, making the work environment unbearable. With the company being acquired by private equity, I can feel the impending layoffs looming, and I find myself in a tough spot. I’m remote in a low-cost area, and I have enough savings to last me several months, but I’m torn between staying and hoping for a layoff or just quitting. I think getting laid off would be easier to explain in future job interviews than voluntarily leaving. Am I crazy for wanting this? Should I start applying for other jobs while I still have one? The comments I’ve seen suggest that it’s better to look for a new position while employed, but the thought of my current situation makes me feel stuck.
