I was recently laid off from my position as an AVP at a US-based bank that was acquired by another bank. My last working day is set for the end of November. The layoff stemmed from a challenging relationship with my boss, who was highly micromanaging and often imposed his authority in a way that felt oppressive. He consistently expected me to work outside of standard hours, even late into the night, insisting that customer satisfaction was paramount. Despite his claims of working extra hours for a decade, I was neither compensated for the overtime nor allowed to submit requests for it. Additionally, my boss had a habit of nitpicking my work and belittling me at every opportunity. I was offered an 8-month severance package, which I have not signed yet. Interestingly, I found a similar job posting within the company portal for the same title and department. I am confused about how this is permissible and whether it constitutes bad faith termination. I’m looking for advice on how to navigate this situation and what steps I should take next.
