I got laid off over a year ago due to company-wide layoffs targeting remote workers, and since then, I’ve been struggling to find work. My medical issues prevent me from taking jobs that require standing, which limits my options significantly. I've applied for positions like reception, but they get filled quickly, and I often don’t even get interviews. I hold a degree that feels useless, and while I have a diverse skill set, I lack a clear specialty. My work history includes early childhood education, assisting a newspaper with local events, and working with a bank on account setups and quality control. Ideally, I would like to find remote work that accommodates my medical needs, but the market is flooded with scams and fierce competition for entry-level roles, which is all I am qualified for. At nearly 41, I still live with my mother, who is also in poor health. I worry every day about potentially becoming homeless. The rising cost of living and stagnant wages, combined with the fear of AI taking over jobs, leave me feeling hopeless. My savings are dwindling fast due to car insurance and medical expenses since I’m currently uninsured. I’ve tried everything, but I can’t even land a single interview—just constant rejections and ghosting. It’s been a long time since I felt happy or even smiled. The anxiety and feelings of failure are overwhelming, especially when I can't even apply for basic jobs like McDonald's. I’m at a breaking point and don’t know how much longer I can endure this situation.
