Navigating the awkwardness of confidentiality after being let go from my job

I was recently let go from my position, and my HR and manager asked me to keep it confidential. They instructed me to set my out-of-office for a month, which has made things a bit awkward. My former coworkers have been reaching out, asking what's wrong, and I'm unsure how to respond. Should I tell them the truth about my situation or just ignore their messages? It's a tough call, especially since I want to respect the confidentiality request but also don’t want to leave my colleagues in the dark.
