After four years of dedicated service and numerous unpaid overtime weekends, I finally accepted a better role at a different company. Wanting to do the right thing, I scheduled a call with my manager to hand in my two-week notice, complete with a detailed handover document. I expected a professional response, but instead, I was met with hostility. My manager sat in silence for what felt like an eternity before accusing me of betraying the team during a busy quarter and abruptly ending the call. Within twenty minutes, my access to Slack and email was cut off, and HR called to inform me that my termination was effective immediately. It felt like I was treated as a corporate spy rather than a loyal employee who had given my all for four years. They didn’t even allow me to say goodbye to my team or retrieve my personal belongings from my desk. This experience has taught me that company loyalty means little in the corporate world. If they had wanted to fire me, they could have done so without warning or severance. I now realize that giving courtesy notices to companies that see you as disposable is not worth it.
