Navigating Uncertainty After Being Asked to Resign from My Job

I was recently asked to resign from my position after nearly a year of working at the company. My boss cited some performance mistakes as the reason and mentioned that I could potentially be rehired when they reopen in December, but I have a strong feeling that this is just a tactic to get me to resign. I'm really uncertain about what to do next. I've heard advice from others suggesting that I should let them fire me instead, so I can collect unemployment benefits. Some people also recommended getting any offers or conditions in writing, but I'm not sure if that's even possible. I'm feeling pretty lost and would appreciate any insights on how to handle this situation.
