I recently interviewed for a photo editing position at a local company, and I felt it went better than I anticipated. A friend who works there referred me, which I think helped me feel more comfortable. After the interview, they gave me a tour of the office, which was nice. They mentioned that I should expect to hear back within a week since they were reviewing other applications too. They said they would email me to confirm if I was still interested and then send over a contract. However, I found their wording a bit confusing because they didn’t explicitly say, "If you're hired." I'm wondering if it would be inappropriate to ask them directly if I got the position after the week has passed. I really want to make sure I'm following up in the right way.
