I'm currently in my senior year of university, working towards my bachelor's degree after completing my associate degree. I never imagined that I would struggle so much just to get an interview for a job. My journey has been anything but straightforward. Originally, I had a clear plan: after high school, I worked in retail and then as a pharmacy technician while studying laboratory science. I intended to become a laboratory assistant while finishing my degree. However, everything changed when my family moved to another country due to cultural expectations. I couldn't stay behind to continue my studies, and the language barrier made it impossible for me to pursue my original major. In a rush, I transferred to an online business program, which was a far cry from my passion for healthcare. I worked as an English teacher to gain some experience, hoping it would help me in my job search. Since the beginning of 2024, I've applied to hundreds of jobs on platforms like LinkedIn and Handshake—everything from in-person to remote positions, entry-level roles, and even jobs that don't require a degree. Yet, I've received no interview invitations. It's disheartening because I feel like I've done everything right. I've worked hard, gained professional and volunteer experience, and completed online certifications. But despite my efforts, I'm starting to feel overwhelmed and question the point of finishing my degree. Seeing my peers land their dream jobs and move forward in life makes it even harder. I feel a mix of happiness for them and jealousy for myself, which I know is an ugly emotion. I just want to stay positive, but it’s tough when I feel like I've lost my path. I'm struggling not only with my job search but also with my motivation to finish my bachelor's degree.
