I was recently laid off from my position after applying for an internal role at my company. I had an informal chat with someone in the department I was interested in, and I was waiting for the HR interview to be scheduled before informing my supervisor. Unfortunately, he found out about my application before I could tell him, and he ended up terminating my employment. I was actually planning to leave the company anyway once I found a better work environment, but this was not how I expected things to unfold.
