I started my first full-time job as a bank teller in August after leaving a toxic environment at a movie theater. I was excited to utilize my Master's degree in Business Analytics, but the transition has been tough. After a month of online training, I began working on the floor, and it's been a struggle ever since. I've been on the floor for about three weeks now, and I often find myself overwhelmed by the various situations that arise with customers. I feel like I’m constantly asking my coworkers for help or searching through company resources for answers. Some of them have expressed frustration at my repeated questions, which adds to my anxiety. I've made mistakes too, and I'm worried that if I continue down this path, it could lead to bigger issues. Feedback about my communication style has also been difficult to digest. I've been told that I share too much information, speak too loudly, and need to be more precise in my checks. This has made me feel like I can't be myself at work, and I find myself constantly editing my behavior to fit the role. I expected a more professional environment, but I've encountered some rude customers, which reminds me of my previous job. Now, I'm questioning if this position is the right fit for me. Although it's entry-level, the stress and pressure are overwhelming, and I don't see myself in finance or banking long-term. I'm torn between giving myself more time to adjust or recognizing that this role may not be suitable for me. I'm reaching out to see if anyone else has faced similar challenges in their first professional job and how they determined if it was just a learning curve or a sign to move on.
