I've been job hunting for nearly three years, and it's been an absolute nightmare. I'm 28, about to turn 29, and I have a background in manufacturing with six years of experience. Currently, I work at a car plant, but I've been through a lot since starting at a medical supply company during COVID and working there for two years. Today was particularly tough. Back in August, a temp agency set me up with a new job, and I completed all the onboarding paperwork and passed the drug screen. I was told the job would start quickly, but the start date has been pushed back multiple times—from September 5th to September 16th, then to the 28th, and now it's set for October 8th. I've been waiting for 41 days for a background check, and while the agency said they would expedite it, I feel stuck. I’ve never experienced such a delay before, especially since I have a clean record. On top of that, I’m working in a toxic environment that’s really taking a toll on my mental and physical health. The company is shutting down soon, and the union mentioned that layoffs will start in November, but we haven’t received any updates. It’s incredibly frustrating being left in the dark. I’m considering staying at this job until the end just to get any severance pay, if they offer it. I’m also moving back to my parents' house at the end of my lease, which I’m dreading. I’ve tried explaining everything that’s been happening, including the background check delays, but I know they’ll be all over me about finding a new job. I have a wellness check with my doctor this Friday because I need to assess my health before losing my insurance. I realize I need to go back to therapy, but I feel overwhelmed by everything. I’ve taken career assessments, consulted career counselors, applied through various channels, practiced interviews, and revised my resume countless times. Yet, I feel like I'm stuck in manufacturing with no way out. I’m losing faith in my future and feel like a failure. I just want to move on with my life, but I feel so lost and unsure of what to do next.
