I’m currently looking to change my career at the age of 22. I graduated in 2025 with a degree in History of Art from Oxford and have been working for an arts charity within the NHS. While I love my job and the people I work with, my salary is only £27k, and I have to be in the office five days a week. There seems to be no real progression opportunities here, as promotions take years. I also help my single mother, who has three kids and cannot work due to caring for my special needs brother. I’m finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet, and I know I can’t stay in the arts or charity sector for much longer as it’s wearing me down. I’ve been considering a consultancy job, but I’m not sure I have the qualifications for it. Last summer, I looked into a law conversion since I attended a few legal summer schools and placements during my A-Levels. I wouldn’t mind exploring civil service roles either. I see my current job as a means to support myself, but I want to avoid being bored at work. I feel a bit stuck and would appreciate any ideas or advice on potential career paths.
