Today, I was let go from my job at a warehouse where I had been working for just under two years. I was a temp starting in November 2024 and officially hired on April 13th this year. I have ADHD and Asperger’s syndrome, which has made it challenging for me to focus and navigate social situations at work. Despite my efforts to improve, I faced issues with attendance due to illness and an injury, which led to my probation being extended. Recently, I received a write-up for violating a forklift safety policy, which I was unaware of, and this added a significant number of points to my record. I tried to plead my case to HR, emphasizing my good work and safety record, but they decided to move me to a different department instead. I was doing well there, and my team lead even praised my performance just before I was called into HR today. In the meeting, I was informed that they couldn’t justify lifting me off probation and wouldn’t extend it further, leading to my termination. I feel blindsided, especially since I was showing improvement and had been told I was doing a good job. Now, I’m left wondering if I should apply for unemployment benefits given my situation.
