Navigating a Tough Job Decision: Comfort vs. Career Growth Opportunities

I’ve been working at my current job for 7 years, and while I truly enjoy the people I collaborate with and appreciate the low-stress environment, I’m starting to feel a bit stagnant. My role allows for a good work-life balance with 7 weeks off a year, holidays, and paid sick time, but I’m feeling burnt out due to a micromanaging boss who doesn’t support us against new administrative changes. The commute is around 45-50 minutes each way, which I don’t mind since I enjoy driving and having that alone time. Recently, I received a job offer that’s only 15-20 minutes from home, which is a significant improvement. It comes with a 22% pay increase and the chance to work at a newer company with better advancement opportunities. However, the new position requires 8-hour days, offers only 15 days of PTO and 6 holidays, and involves clocking in and out. I’m also concerned about being available for calls after hours, as I’ve already received a couple of calls at 6 PM during the interview process. A major factor in my decision is my child, who has type 1 diabetes. The new job would create a gap in medical coverage, and I’m anxious about how the new insurance will handle her medication and supplies. I want to ensure her care remains consistent. This is a tough decision for me. I’m weighing the stability of my current role against the potential growth of the new opportunity. I’m torn between staying in a comfortable but stale position and taking a risk for a better career path. I’d really appreciate any advice on how to navigate this situation.
