I recently quit my job after 10 years because I was feeling extremely burned out and needed to prioritize my mental health. To avoid the awkward questions about my next steps, I told my coworkers that I had found a better job, even though I actually don't have one lined up. I feel guilty about lying, especially since I'm not good at it, but I felt it was necessary to dodge the probing questions about where I'm going and how I got the new position. The pressure from my colleagues made it even harder, and I regret not just saying I prefer to keep my future plans private.
