Navigating a Hostile Reaction After Leaving a Contract Role for a Full-Time Position

Today was a really tough day for me. I’ve been in a contract role for about 2.5 months, and I recently accepted a full-time position elsewhere. I gave my notice to my current employer, expecting a professional transition, but it turned into a nightmare. My employer reacted extremely poorly, accusing me of being a cheater and a liar, and he yelled at me for about 30 minutes. I was completely taken aback by the level of hostility and humiliation I experienced. I’ve never faced anything like this in my career before. I thought it was standard to give notice when moving on, especially in a contract role, but apparently, they felt betrayed. I’m left wondering if it’s really unprofessional to leave a job after such a short time, or if their reaction is what’s truly unprofessional. I’m still shaking from the experience and just want to move on to my new role.
