Navigating pay issues and wage theft at my new restaurant job in North Carolina

I recently started working full-time at a family-owned restaurant in North Carolina, and I'm facing some serious issues with my pay. Initially, I was hired at $12 per hour for about 50 hours a week, but my payment structure has turned into a semi-monthly check system where I’m supposed to receive $3,600 a month, which breaks down to $1,800 twice a month. However, I was informed that my first paycheck would not include the pay for the first 50 hours I worked. Instead, they are keeping that as a 'deposit' until I leave or quit. Currently, I'm working around 57 hours a week, and I’m not being compensated for any overtime. Additionally, if I miss any shifts, there are hefty deductions from my pay—$60 for partial shifts and $120 for a full day. I also have tips from credit cards and cash that I’m not allowed to keep, which feels incredibly unfair. I need this job to pay my bills, but I feel trapped and unsure of what to do next. I’ve documented all my hours and responsibilities, and I’m aware that I’m in a bad situation. I’ve received some advice from others suggesting that I report this as wage theft and consider contacting the labor department. I’m hoping to find a way out of this predicament while still being able to support myself.
