I started a new job as a Marketing and Recruitment Assistant at a small staffing firm in September, and I’m feeling really overwhelmed. During the interview process, the role was advertised as "Hybrid," which was a major factor in my decision to apply since I have ADHD and needed that flexibility. However, once I started, I was informed that the job is actually fully in-person, five days a week from 8 to 5. After six months, I can work one remote day a week, but it has to be requested and can’t be on Mondays or Fridays. This was a huge disappointment for me, especially since my commute is about 25 minutes each way. In addition to the unexpected in-person requirement, I’m the only marketing person here, which means I’m responsible for all aspects of marketing. I’m filming and editing videos, doing graphic design, managing social media, and handling email marketing—all without a budget or proper tools. I’ve had to use my personal phone for everything, which is a hassle and has filled my storage. I’ve asked for a work phone and scheduling software like Sprout Social, but I haven’t received any support on these requests. On top of my marketing duties, I’m also assisting with recruiting. I conduct multiple interviews a day, coordinate schedules, and manage candidate organization through our staffing software. While I expected some recruitment tasks, the constant switching between marketing and recruitment is incredibly stressful and is impacting my productivity. To make matters worse, my desk is literally at the front reception area, so I’m frequently interrupted by walk-ins and coworkers. This constant distraction is challenging for my ADHD, and I find it hard to focus. I was allowed to work from home for just one hour when I had a migraine, and I accomplished more in that hour than I had all day at the office. The stress from this job has been overwhelming. I’ve gone from having occasional migraines to experiencing them constantly, and I was even hospitalized last week due to a severe migraine that lasted four days. I’ve been having panic attacks every night, and I’m dealing with other stress-related symptoms like hair loss and weight gain. Despite my boss praising my work and expressing appreciation, I feel lost and unsure about what to do next. I know I need to find a better work environment, but I’m not sure how to approach it.
