I just found out that my job is laying off everyone two weeks before my due date. I'm currently 38 weeks pregnant, and this news has hit me hard. I had planned to return to my position after maternity leave, but now the company will no longer exist. We're supposedly getting a small severance check, but after that, it's unclear what support we'll have. I've read that being on maternity leave might make me ineligible for unemployment benefits, but since I won't technically be on leave—just laid off—I’m unsure of my options. I know I need to be actively looking for jobs and participating in job programs, but with a newborn, I won’t be able to do that right away. I'm worried I might not qualify for unemployment, and I'm looking for any advice or insights from others who have faced a similar situation. The timing couldn't be worse.
