I recently lost my job as a QC Analyst at a food manufacturing company and have been actively searching for a new position every day. My experience involved a lot of lab work and using analytical instruments, which I thought would make me a strong candidate for similar roles in the pharmaceutical industry. However, I've faced significant challenges due to the specific experience requirements that many companies have. It seems that pharmaceutical companies are not just looking for lab experience; they want candidates who have worked specifically in pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical labs. This has led to numerous rejections for QC Analyst roles that I believed I could easily transition into. It's frustrating because the skills I developed in the food industry are largely transferable to pharma. The analytical instruments and methods used are very similar, and both industries are governed by the same FDA regulations. Yet, it feels like if you didn't start in pharma right out of college, you're shut out of the field entirely. I can't help but wonder why companies are so rigid in their requirements when they will need to train new hires on their specific processes anyway. It seems like an unnecessary barrier in an already tough job market.
