I'm currently in a permanent full-time position at a company that has become extremely toxic. Over the past two years, the organization has been struggling, resulting in constant layoffs. My team is nearly depleted, with many members either quitting or being let go, and the work is piling up without any knowledge transfer. The new leadership seems solely focused on cutting costs, and the overall culture is just dreadful. I absolutely dread going to work every day. Recently, I received an offer for a 12-month contract position that pays the same as my current job. This new role is with a growing team in an innovative field focused on AI and self-driving technology, which would significantly enhance my skills and career prospects. The team appears fantastic, and the position includes PTO and benefits, although I primarily get benefits through my wife. Despite my strong desire to accept the contract job, I'm feeling anxious about the uncertainty of what might happen after the year is up. I've been searching for over a year for jobs that match my current salary in my area, and it's been tough. I'm really torn between staying in a toxic environment or taking a leap into something new and potentially rewarding.
