I've been reflecting on the current job market, and it's alarming to see so many layoffs happening lately. It feels like a trend that’s creeping into our workplaces. I’ve noticed that even managers and higher-ups aren't safe from being let go, which seems unfair. It’s legal for companies to do this without any mandatory severance packages or clear reasons, and I find that really troubling. I’ve seen companies that are doing well still letting people go, and it’s disheartening to think about the toxic environments that allow this to happen. Some companies fire employees only to rehire for the same roles shortly after, which just adds to the confusion and stress. The culture of loyalty seems to be fading; it’s like companies are hiring and firing on a whim, without any accountability. In other places, it’s much harder to terminate someone once they’re hired, but here it feels like it’s as easy as snapping your fingers. I’ve witnessed colleagues who work incredibly hard, going above and beyond, only to be pushed out under dubious circumstances. The process can be humiliating, and it’s painful to see good people suffer because of arbitrary performance metrics that seem impossible to meet. It’s heartbreaking to think about the impact this has on people's lives—families depending on their income, loans to pay off, and the emotional toll it takes. I can’t help but wonder how many have faced severe consequences, like depression or worse, after being laid off. I really hope our government steps in to protect workers from these practices, ensuring that companies can't just fire employees without justification or support. This has to change.
