Reflections on Being Let Go as a Bookkeeping Manager After Just Two Weeks

I was let go from my position as a bookkeeping manager after just two weeks at a company where I was expected to manage 450 clients and 24 staff members without even receiving a client list. During my onboarding, two team members quit, and I was tasked with managing that transition. I worked hard, took initiative on planning, organized documentation, and received positive feedback from my colleagues. However, in a meeting with leadership, they dismissed my efforts, added more responsibilities, and provided no support or access to essential tools. When I raised concerns about the unclear communication and unrealistic expectations, they became defensive. The next day, I was called into a meeting with HR, where I was informed that my employment was being terminated immediately, with no explanation given. I later discovered that this role had a high turnover rate, with five people leaving in six years, and that staff had previously raised complaints to leadership without any changes being made. I had a feeling something was off from the beginning but stayed because I needed the paycheck. I'm wondering if others have experienced this pattern of being overloaded with responsibilities and then cut loose after speaking up. Is this a common tactic, or was I just unlucky?
