I've been working at my first job in a challenging industry for about four months now, and I'm really struggling with whether to stay or leave. After a serious accident at work, I was injured and faced some pretty awful treatment from the head of the company, including racist comments. To make matters worse, I was suspended without pay for two weeks, although they did backpay me when I returned. When I got back, I found out that our HR department had completely disbanded, and my favorite coworker had moved to another department. To add insult to injury, I was written up for a mistake that my trainer falsely claimed I hadn't reported, even though I had taken accountability for it. Despite these setbacks, I’ve been performing well and learning quickly from my senior coworkers. However, I pushed myself too hard and ended up falling asleep at my desk a couple of times, which led to my pay being frozen for 12-18 months. This feels incredibly excessive, especially since I'm still in training and expected to receive raises every six months. To top it off, they handed over training on important equipment to a new trainee who just started, while I feel like I'm being sidelined. I'm left wondering if they even plan to train me on the high-tech equipment, which is crucial for my career growth. I'm torn because my current pay rate is decent compared to what other companies are offering, but the lack of growth opportunities and the toxic environment are making me reconsider my future here. I'm an at-will employee, so leaving could mean no severance, and I worry that they might be holding onto me just to avoid repercussions from an ongoing racial discrimination case. I’m really at a crossroads and need to decide whether to stay in this difficult situation or seek out something better for my mental health and career.
