I recently started a new role at a small professional services firm, and I’m feeling anxious about an unexpected meeting scheduled for tomorrow morning. The meeting is with my manager and my onboarding contact, which is unusual since they haven’t met with me together before. I’ve only been with the company for a few weeks, and I’m worried this could be a termination meeting. Recently, I received some constructive feedback on a deliverable, which I took positively, but I’ve noticed my manager has postponed several check-ins and I’ve had very little work assigned to me. I’ve reached out for more tasks, but my messages have gone unanswered. The meeting title is generic, just labeled as a "[Company] Check-in," and the combination of all these factors has me concerned. I know that small companies often operate differently than larger ones, and I haven’t received any formal warnings about my performance. However, the sudden lack of communication and this meeting invitation has me on edge. I’m hoping to get some insights from anyone who has experienced something similar, especially those who have worked in smaller organizations without dedicated HR departments. Is it common for such meetings to be routine check-ins, or should I be worried?
