Today, I learned that Microsoft is offering voluntary exits to 60,000 employees, which is about 27% of its global workforce. This news feels overwhelming, almost like we're facing a pandemic of layoffs. It’s disheartening to see the IT sector, once a Tier 1 career path, now feeling so precarious and irrelevant. People keep suggesting we should upskill, but with so much uncertainty and so many layoffs happening, it feels nearly impossible to know what skills to focus on. The thought of 60,000 professionals flooding the job market is daunting, especially in an already tough environment. I can’t help but feel that the future is really unclear right now. Many of us are left wondering what our next steps should be and how we’ll navigate this situation if it continues to escalate. On top of that, I’m also worried about the impact of El Niño on our homes back in the villages. I think it’s important for us to connect and discuss these challenges together, as it might help us make sense of everything going on. I’d appreciate hearing others' thoughts and experiences regarding this situation.
