I got laid off from my job three weeks ago and received a two-month severance payment as a lump sum. On the same day I was laid off, I filed for unemployment benefits. A few days later, I received a letter detailing how much I would be eligible for in weekly benefits, and I also saw a message in my online portal stating that my claim was complete and there was no need to contact an agent. Today, I went back to the portal to certify my weekly benefits, but I found that there was no option to do so. Instead, it only gave me the option to create a new claim. I'm feeling confused and a bit frustrated. I thought my claim was accepted, so do I really need to file a new claim? I've seen some comments suggesting that since I have severance, it might be allocated over the next two months, which could affect my eligibility. I need to figure out how long my severance will impact my benefits and whether I should be looking for a way to reopen my claim instead of starting a new one.
