I recently reapplied for a position I had to resign from at my dream job due to health issues. I worked there for 8 years and genuinely loved it, but my uncontrolled epilepsy made it difficult for me to continue. After struggling for about 9 months, I realized I was being pushed out and ultimately decided to resign. It was heartbreaking, and I spent two months grieving the loss of a job that brought me so much joy. Since leaving, I've noticed that many of my former colleagues who initially reached out have deleted me or ignored my messages. It feels like the friendships I thought I had were superficial. My boss, who used to say that everyone was welcome back, didn’t seem to extend that sentiment to me when I left. He merely acknowledged my decision without any warmth, which stung. Recently, I saw that the position I once held is open again. My epilepsy is now under control, and I felt compelled to reach out and see if I could apply. When I contacted my old boss, his response was vague and uninspiring. I also reached out to a former coworker who still communicates with me, but they didn’t show any enthusiasm about my potential return. Now that I’ve applied, I’m feeling regretful. I worry that if I get an interview, it will be awkward given how I left and how things have changed. I’ve heard of others being rehired without the formal application process, which makes my situation feel even more painful. I’m struggling with the idea of possibly being offered an interview just out of pity, and I’m unsure how to navigate this if it happens. Am I overthinking this? What should I do next?
