I'm currently facing a tough decision about whether to stay in my job or leave. I'm 24 weeks pregnant and due in December, and I've been paying into a voluntary short-term disability insurance for over two years, hoping to have some income while I'm on maternity leave. My insurance premiums are incredibly high, totaling $730 per pay period, which is a significant burden since I work on a 100% commission basis. This has been a slow season, and I anticipate my next few paychecks will be $0 after taxes and deductions. I recently realized that my short-term disability payments of $785 every two weeks will barely cover my insurance costs, leaving me with only about $50 to spare. I'm feeling overwhelmed by the prospect of not earning anything for the next month and a half, especially with a baby on the way. I'm also concerned about losing my FMLA protection if I switch jobs, as I believe I need to be at a new position for 12 months to have that security upon my return. I'm really starting to feel stressed and uncertain about what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
